TEF TEST
FRENCH PROFESSIONAL ASSESSMENT TEST
Cestar Collège is a centre accredited by the Paris Île-de-France Chamber of Commerce and Industry to administer French language assessment tests, including the TEF Canada and the TEFAQ.
About the TEF
The TEF is an international benchmark test created in 1998 by the Paris Île-de-France Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This test is an international reference exam that measures the level of knowledge and skills in French.
Candidate evaluation
Candidates are assessed on a 6-level scale, ranging from level A1 (most basic skills) to level C2 (complete mastery). This scale corresponds to the 6 proficiency levels (A1 to C2) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) of the Council of Europe and the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB).
The trials
The TEF comprises five tests: three multiple-choice tests with automated marking and written and oral expression tests assessed by two different markers/evaluators.
Objectives and modules
The TEF is a modular test. Depending on your objective (immigration, citizenship, studies, etc.), you must register for the version of the TEF that includes the required modules.
TEF Canada / TEFAQ
The TEF Canada and the TEFAQ are French language assessment tests recognized by the Ministère de l'Immigration et de la Francisation et de l'Intégration (MIFI) for the CSQ (Quebec Selection Certificate) and by CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada) for federal immigration applications and the citizenship application process.
Waiting period
Candidates must observe a 30-day waiting period between registrations, regardless of the test location. Failure to comply with this 30-day period will result in the cancellation of the registration.
The duration of the tests depends on the test
The computer-based test lasts approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, and the oral expression test takes place on the same day according to an appointment scheduled for each participant. Note: for some versions of the TEF, the tests must be taken during the same session.

Test
TEF Canada
The TEF Canada (tests: reading comprehension, listening comprehension, writing, speaking) was made mandatory in 2002 by the Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada for people wishing to have their French skills recognized as part of filing an immigration application in the skilled worker category.
It is also used to provide proof of French language skills when applying for Canadian citizenship (oral tests only).
Duration: The computerized test lasts approximately 2.5 hours, and the oral expression test takes place on the same day, according to an appointment set for each participant.
Please plan to be available all day on the day of your exam, as oral assessments are by appointment during the day.
Objectives and modules: Depending on your objective (immigration, citizenship, studies, etc.), you must register for the version of the TEF that includes the required modules. For some versions of the TEF, the modules must be taken during the same session.

As part of Quebec's immigration procedures, the Quebec Ministry of Immigration, Francisation and Integration (MIFI) requires proof of French language skills.
The TEFAQ is also recognized by IRCC for access to Canadian citizenship.
Duration: This test lasts 55 minutes and consists of two compulsory and inseparable sections: listening comprehension (40 questions in 40 minutes) and speaking (two topics in 15 minutes), as well as two optional tests: reading comprehension and writing.
Duration:
The computerized test, which comprises four sections, lasts approximately 2 hours and 55 minutes, and the oral expression test takes place on the same day according to an appointment set for each participant.
Please plan to be available all day on the day of your exam, as oral assessments are by appointment during the day.
