Course Description

Having a quality product or service means nothing if no one knows about it.  This 10-week class will teach students everything they need to know about creating a solid marketing plan, setting a reasonable marketing budget and then effectively implementing these strategies.

To obtain skills to create powerful media strategies and campaigns that promote products and services effectively, as well as gaining awareness for the art of visual presentation and recent promotional and technological developments in the industry, such as social media and various software.

Cestar Sherbrooke’s Marketing and Promotion – short program focuses on expanding your skillset that enables you to work with advertising creatives, such as graphic designers, marketing specialists, and media planners, as well as manage the media strategies for your own small business or personal projects.

Courses in advertising, marketing communications, public relations and project co-ordination will equip you with skills crucial in today’s job market and expand the breadth of your employment opportunities.

We will equip you with promotional writing, visual presentation and organizational skills, as well as introductory design, basic production and social media marketing skills.

While this class is available as an Institutional Certificate course, completion of this course grants extra credits towards the Business Management program.

Course Prerequisites and Admission

Basic Computer Skills: You should be comfortable using a computer, browsing the internet, and using common software like Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.

Internet Access: Reliable internet access is crucial for an online class. You'll need to stream video lectures, participate in virtual discussions, and submit assignments online.

Understanding of Basic Business Concepts: While not required, having a basic understanding of business concepts can be helpful in a marketing class. This includes understanding concepts like supply and demand, profit and loss, and the role of different business functions.

English Proficiency: A good understanding of the English language, both written and spoken, is often necessary.

Time Management Skills: Online classes require a significant time commitment. You'll need to be able to manage your time effectively to keep up with lectures, readings, and assignments.

Willingness to Participate: Online classes often include discussion forums or group projects. Being willing to actively participate in these activities can enhance your learning experience.

Basic Math Skills: Marketing often involves analyzing data to make decisions. Therefore, basic math skills can be beneficial.

  • A Laptop/Desktop computer equipped with a single core processor (at least 1 GHZ processing speed) or a smartphone/tablet with equivalent processing capabilities
  • Good speakers/earphones to listen to the classes
  • Browser - IE7+, Safari 5+, Firefox, Chrome
  • Operating System - Windows 7, 10,11, Mac OS 10.6, Linux distro based on 3.0 kernel, Android 5.0, iOS 10

  • A strong uninterrupted broadband wired or wireless (3G or 4G/LTE) connection with a minimum 1.5Mbps bandwidth (up/down). You can also connect to the internet directly using your ethernet cable to improve your experience.
