Course Description

This course will provide childcare professionals with an understanding of how to promote health and safety in childcare facilities. It will cover topics such as child development, common illnesses and injuries faced by young children, infection control, emergency response planning, and creating a safe and secure environment for children.

The specific materials for this course may vary depending on the training provider, but generally,
the following materials could be used:
• Textbook or reference materials on child health and safety.
• PowerPoint presentations or visual aids.
• Videos or online courses related to child health and safety.
• Case studies or scenarios related to child health and safety.
• Handouts or worksheets for note taking and review.
• Emergency response plan templates or resources.
• Health and safety policies and procedures for childcare facilities.

In addition, some training providers may offer hands-on training, such as first aid and CPR certification or simulated emergency drills, to reinforce the material covered in the course.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
• Understand the importance of promoting health and safety in childcare facilities.
• Recognize the stages of child development and their impact on health and safety.
• Identify common illnesses and injuries faced by young children and respond appropriately.
• Implement infection control protocols to prevent the spread of communicable diseases.
• Develop an emergency response plan that considers the unique needs of young children.
• Create a safe and secure environment for children, including proper supervision, equipment maintenance, and crisis prevention.

•Apply First Aid and CPR in emergency situations.

First aid and CPR certification or simulated emergency drills will be provided to reinforce the material covered in the course. Certification will be given upon successful completion.

  • A strong uninterrupted broadband wired or wireless (3G or 4G/LTE) connection with a minimum 600kbps bandwidth (up/down).
  • A Laptop/Desktop computer equipped with a single core processor (at least 1 GHZ processing speed) or a smartphone/tablet with equivalent processing capabilities
  • Good speakers/earphones to listen to the classes
  • Browser - IE7+, Safari 5+, Firefox, Chrome
  • Operating System - Windows XP, Mac OS 10.6, Linux distro based on 3.0 kernel, Android 5.0, iOS 10

 

Cestar Recommendations

  • A strong uninterrupted broadband wired or wireless (3G or 4G/LTE) connection with a minimum 1.5Mbps bandwidth (up/down). You can also connect to the internet directly using your ethernet cable to improve your experience.
  • Laptop/Desktop computer equipped with a dual core processor with at least 2 GHZ processing speed and a 4 GB RAM
  • High Quality speakers/earphones to listen to the classes

• Current trends in health and security in childcare.

Module 2: Child Development and Its Impact on Health and Security
• Stages of child development.
• Physical, emotional, and cognitive development and their impact on health and security.
• Developing appropriate health and security practices for different age groups.
• Identifying signs of developmental problems.

Module 3: Responding to Common Illnesses and Injuries
• Common illnesses faced by young children.
• Symptoms and treatment of common childhood illnesses.
• Preventing the spread of communicable diseases.
• Treating minor injuries.

Module 4: Infection Control
• Understanding how infections are spread.
• Best practices in infection prevention.
• Cleaning and disinfecting protocols.
• Health and safety policies and procedures.

Module 5: Emergency Response Planning
• Identifying potential emergencies.
• Developing an emergency response plan.
• Communicating with parents and staff during an emergency.
• Training staff and children on emergency procedures.

Module 6: Creating a Safe and Secure Environment for Children
